We begin our EPIC Journey here in Salvador! We did an hour workshop with 60 young teenagers in a local school outside the city centre.
Having spent nearly a week in Salvador where we have been staying in an area called 'Praia Do Flamengo' with an amazing friend called Dana, we have kick started our EPIC Journey. Dana who actually works in a local school managed to get us an hour at 8am in the morning on 17/04/17 !
We replaced their early maths lessons to teach this workshop! So I can tell you that they were over the moon :) We began the workshop by asking them about their understanding of the Hip Hop culture. Asking questions like, "Who here has heard of Graffiti, DJ'ing, Rap or Breaking?" and we also asked them to remember the word 'EPIC'.
Laia and myself shared the basics in groove, breaking and popping with a mixture of games to make it more fun (including the 'become an animal game' which always goes down well!).
At the end of the workshop, we got all the young teenagers to sit down where we asked them, "what does EPIC stand for?" As expected, a few replied with "Every Person Is Capable" having seen our T Shirts. We then asked, "What does EPIC mean for you?". The response we got here was incredible where students replied with "where nothing is impossible" and "you an do anything". We left them with a simple message that if you have a dream, it can be achieved regardless of your background, you just need the right mindset.
Our next stop will be Peluorinho in Salvador where we will be doing an exchange with local dancers. Thank you all for your continuous support ! Peace & Love, Laia & Savan
